Disneyland’s Forgotten Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland Ride History, Secrets & Remnants (2019)

Back before Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was at Disneyland there was another ride in its place called the Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland. Originally called the Rainbow Caverns Mine Train, the Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland opened at Disneyland in 1956 (a year after the park opened) The ride was inspired by Walt Disney's extremely popular TrueLife Adventures series. The Mine Train was very similar to Adventureland's Jungle Cruise (except you rode in trains not boats) You would go on a tour of the North American wilderness, passing by a mountain called Cascade Peak, travel into Bear Country, through Beaver Valley and into the Living Desert. The Living Desert included some funny looking cacti, some desert critters, the Devil's Paint Pots which were colorful geysers that would spray the travelers. After passing through the Living Desert the train would enter the final and most famous area, the Rainbow Caverns. The caverns are so famous because there is no clear photos or videos of the inside but from what people say, photos and videos wouldn't even do it justice. In January of 1977 the Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland closed to make way for Big Thunder Mountain which opened in 1979. There were many things left over from mine train ride but now that Star Wars Galaxy's Edge (Star Wars Land) is under construction, a lot of the old remnants have been demolished but there are still a few that remain hidden in Frontierland.
