For centuries, the old kingdom of Ceylon, or the island of Tabropane as the Ancient Greeks called it, was an important port and trading post. Today, Sri Lanka is known principally for the beauty and great diversity of its landscapes.

Despite a thirtyyearlong internal conflict, the Sri Lankans remain alive to the wisdom of Buddhism and understand the importance of preserving their island's biodiversity.
