In today's video, I'll be sharing a couple of updates regarding the machine. Firstly, I'll discuss improvements in cable management and the design and crafting of a custom dust boot tailored specifically for this machine. Then, I'll guide you through the process of properly calibrating your NEMA motors in Mach 3 by setting your 'Steps per mm' or 'Steps per inch'. Accurately defining these parameters is essential for achieving precise results with your machine. I'll provide a demonstration on how to test this calibration and offer a hypothetical example of how to address any accuracy issues that may arise. Additionally, I'll demonstrate a critical calibration technique for checking the squareness of your machine using Pythagoras' theorem (the 3, 4, 5 rule). This simple method can quickly determine if your machine is true and square.
After these updates, I'll proceed to conduct the first basic cut on my machine, which involves a simple facing operation on an old spoilboard from my previous 3018 CNC. Upon achieving success with this initial cut, I gained confidence in the machine and promptly moved on to securing and surfacing the actual spoilboard.
