In this video I show you how I made a Kamado BBQ from flowerpots.
A Kamado is a traditional Japanese wood or charcoalfueled cook stove.
Nowadays they are really popular, there are many brands like The Green Egg, Joe, Yakiniku, etc.
I decided to try to make one myself using flowerpots and some other materials like heat gasket, a thermometer, some steal en heat proof paint.
It worked surprisingly well. The BBQ is very easy to control and the food turns out super yummy.

Thank you all for your nice comments and questions. I really appreciate that. Here are some answers to the most asked questions:
• Some people claim that clay pots can contain metals, like lead. My terracotta pots are unglazed pots and made in Italy. From what I know they don’t contain any lead. But please do your research to make sure you use the right pots.
• The gasket is a special heat proof gasket for grills. Not rubber or plastic
• The paint is heat proof too and I only applied it on the outside of the grill.
• Before I used the grill I fired it up for a couple of hours to let all the bad gasses (if they where there) evaporate.
• I always heat up the grill slowly to avoid a sudden rise in temperature and try to prevent it from cracking. So far it didn’t crack from the heat. I got a small crack from tightening one of the nuts too tight. But I fixed that and the pot is air tight.
• The hinge is bought in a local grill shop as a spare part for kamado grills.
• This project was just for fun, I know that a flowerpot can not be compared to your expensive Kamado grill. Tough im still enjoying the juicy food from it.
• I did some simple burgers as a first test because after the build I wanted to test the grill quickly. Later on I tried things like pork belly etc.
• I try to keep the grille under 300 to 350 degrees Celsius. Because you know, they’re still flowerpots. Most of the time I bbq around 250/300 C. The venting holes can control the temperature.
• The pits are just for decoration purpose. I wanted to make it look less like a flowerpot.
Use your common sense and only do or make things you feel comfortable with. But most of all; enjoy your life! Peace ✌
