The title of the story references the fact that Maṅgal’s mother Bhūngī had been the wet nurse of the pampered son of a rich village landowner, Suresh. Sharing mother’s milk should have made the two boys akin to brothers, but Suresh is a whiny, despicable boy who not only received the lion’s share of Bhūngī’s mother’s milk but also treats Maṅgal as an inferior. And these are just some of the miseries that Maṅgal must endure.
