Du0026NE Consolidation #28 on the NSSR

Built by ALCO in 1906, Duluth and Northeastern 280 Consolidation #28 was the last steam locomotive to operate in regular service in Minnesota, and is the only locomotive of her type in operating condition. She was retired in 1965, and was donated to the LSRM almost ten years later, where she was displayed until 2011, when she was sent to Cloquet for part of her restoration. She completed this restoration in Duluth, and now runs for the first time in over 50 years.

#28 is also the first steam locomotive since Soo Pacific #2719 (which last ran in 2013) to run on the NSSR. This video, however, does not include her first runs; rather, I start at the beginning of her weekly service, to Two Harbors on Fridays and Saturdays, and to Palmers twice in Sundays. All clips are in order from west to east, and are almost all in chronological order (only the first three clips aren't). From downtown Duluth to over the Lester River, this footage was shot from mostly along the Lakewalk over about a month in elapsed time.

Shot with a Nikon D5200 and two different lenses, one 1855mm, another 55200mm. Video compiled on Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13.
