Margaret DeClerk was on a routine walk in her neighborhood when her dog pulled her towards a barren lot on Jones and Patrick. DeClerk's dog had guided her a few dozen feet from the road into the undeveloped lot before she spotted the body.

Medical personnel pronounced the person deceased on the scene, and no identification was found. The coroner's office is currently investigating the cause of death. It is unclear at this time if the person was experiencing homelessness, but DeClerk believes that to be the case.

DeClerk said the heat and decomposition had gotten to the point where she was not able to identify the person’s skin color to first responders.
