Don’t Let Your Tomatoes Turn RED! Harvest Tomatoes Like This.

It isn't necessary to let a tomato turn fully red on the vine to maximize flavor. Letting a tomato hang too long subjects it to insect damage, splitting / cracking and becoming waterlogged. Harvest tomatoes when they are blushing halfway and let them finish ripening indoors on your countertop for better results and bigger tomato harvests.

For those that think a tomato will taste better if you let it fully ripen on the vine, the tomato is actually "sealed off" from the plant itself at the Breaker Stage, which is approximately 33% color blush. After this stage, there is physically no need to allow it to hang on the plant any longer. Any perceived difference in flavor is in our heads, because the tomato is sealed off from the plant anyway.
