Dorsal recumbent position nursing NCLEX review. Dorsal refers to the back, and recumbent means "lying down." So in this position, the patient is lying on their back (supine position), but with their knees bent.
This position is used for foley catheter insertion on female patients, as well as when performing pericare.
Pressure injuries can occur with this position on the heel, shoulder, elbow, coccyx area, and back of the head.
