About Normalized Burn Ratio (NBR):

The NBR (Normalized Burn Ratio) is a remote sensing index used to assess the severity of burn scars or areas affected by fire using satellite imagery, such as Landsat 8 data. The NBR is calculated based on the reflectance values in the Near Infrared (NIR) and Shortwave Infrared 2 (SWIR2) bands of Landsat 8 imagery.
The formula to calculate the NBR is as follows:

NBR = (NIR SWIR2) / (NIR + SWIR2)

In this formula, NIR refers to the reflectance values in the Near Infrared band (Band 5 of Landsat 8), and SWIR2 refers to the reflectance values in the Shortwave Infrared 2 band (Band 7 of Landsat 8).
The NBR values typically range from 1 to 1, with negative values representing areas with severe burn scars and positive values representing relatively healthy or unburned vegetation. The greater the negative value, the more severe the burn.

Here's how to interpret the NBR values:
• Positive values (0 to 1): Generally indicate healthy or unburned vegetation.
• Near zero values: Suggest minimal to moderate burn severity.
• Negative values (1 to 0): Indicate areas of more severe burn scars, with lower values representing higher severity.

NBR analysis is particularly useful for assessing the impact of wildfires, studying postfire vegetation recovery, and monitoring the ecological changes in fireaffected areas over time. Keep in mind that the specific thresholds used to classify burn severity levels might vary depending on the region and the study's objectives.
