Stratigraphers record data about sedimentary rocks graphically in stratigraphic columns (and other ways, too). These representations usually use grain size as the "xaxis" and thickness as the "yaxis". In this video I map a photo of some turbidites into a stratigraphic column, specifically showing the interbedding of sandstones and mudstones. It includes how to represent beds that are too thin to draw.
