About this video:

Welcome back to another urban sketching tutorial. In this video, we’ll be drawing a lovely winter house with square proportions and welldefined sections.

In the video, you'll see that the original picture features neatly arranged bricks and roof tiles, but with a very intriguing window. This window gives off an industrial vibe due to its dark green frame and looks quite mysterious since it’s completely dark. I decided to highlight this characteristic of the window to create a contrast with the rest of the elements, which appear cute, to see what interesting effects this contrast might have.

For this project, I used marker pen paper, fine liners, graphite, a blender pencil, and classic Copic markers. If you want to try this sketch yourself and achieve the same contrasting effect, focus on the element you want to highlight, in this case, the window. Try to make it slightly larger than its original proportion, and if you plan on drawing it black, create a subtle gradient as it moves away from the element. For example, the window itself is completely black, the frame is a dark color, and the nearby tiles have more shadow than the others, instead of contrasting the frame and tiles with very different color tones.

Let me know your thoughts, and if you try a similar sketch, please share your experience! As always, thank you so much for watching. If you enjoyed the video and want to see more sketching tutorials, don’t forget to subscribe, like, and share so others can see the video as well!

Have a great day!
