Take a virtual dive through the best coral reefs in the world with the breathtaking marine life of Raja Ampat, which is called, by many, the Last Paradise on Earth.

Although we are not allowed to travel, no one could stop us from dreaming about our favourite places. This video is about our memories and dreams of the breathtaking Raja Ampat. Lets dive together at the richest coral reefs in the world. Please note that masks and fins are not required on this dive:)

The Raja Ampat lies in the middle of the Coral Triangle, where the Pacific Ocean meets the Indian Ocean. The marine life biodiversity in the Raja Ampat is the highest recorded on Earth. It's simply overwhelming. It is a home to over 540 types of corals, more than 1000 types of coral fish and over 700 types of mollusks.

This diving paradise was discovered by Max Ammer about 30 year ago. Max opened the very first dive resort in Raja Ampat, Kri Eco Resort, and later Sorido Bay Resort.

Please watch my video about Max Ammer:    • The Pioneer of Scuba Diving in Raja A...

After my own 'discovery' of the Raja Ampat, my wife and I visited several dive resorts in Raja Ampat. Sorido Bay Resort was by far our favourite, and we already visited it twice for total duration of 36 days. The combination of the best diving, greatest marine biodiversity in the world, and the resort itself made it our Favourite Place on Earth. It is truly the PARADISE FOR DIVERS; and we hope to visit it many more times in the future.

In this video I used 4K underwater video clips shot during our two stays at the Sorido Bay Resort in December 2018 and January 2020.

During the first visit I used Sony A7Rii camera, but during the last trip Sony camcorder HXRNX80 with Gates housing and Keldan video lights. Sony HXRNX80 (or Z90) allows to shoot in Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) picture profile. 'HLG' footage could be used to produce both HDR (high dynamic range) and SDR (standard dynamic range) videos.

As most TVs and monitors are SDR and not capable to show HDR videos, I decided to experiment with both HDR and SDR. Most of my footage from the last trip was shot for socalled Rec.709 color space (SDR). On some dives, however, I experimented with HLG. In this video I used a number of HLG clips and converted them to Rec.709 color space.

My special thanks to Juan Miguel Núñez Arellano for his guidance and mentoring in shooting and grading HLG footage. You could visit his website http://wetpixel.es to learn more about underwater videography in general and about using HLG for underwater videography.
