DRIFT DRUMS - 20' Modified UFIP Dry Jazz Crash Ride 1805gr

Drift Drums

This 20" was originally a 20" UFIP Medium Ride, coming from a weight of 2430 grams. Now the cymbal has been hammered and relathed on the top and bottom side of the cymbal, and weights only 1805 grams.

The outcome in sound is quite interesting, if we compare it to modified Avedis cymbals (which we mostly use for our modification project). The volume is a whole lot lower but also a lot of the tension is gone. We aimed for a light weight jazz ride, but the result is a very dry low volume crash ride with a very short decay. With the right type of sticks (I used Vic Firth Peter Erskine Ride sticks) it can be played as a ride and then is really good for small ensembles and small venues, but it is just as good (if not better) as a big dry crash that you can really lean into without overpowering the rest of the group, even if you play it really powerful.

Conclusion; not what we expected but for sure a very interesting cymbal as a result!
