Driving in Lagos vs Accra

Welcome to another episode of driving in Accra vs Lagos. In this episode, we're not just talking about the roads and the vehicles but the people behind the wheels. We'll delve into the unique driving styles and the human experiences that shape them in these bustling cities.

Lagos' total road length is 5180 kilometres, whilst Accra's is 1,117 kilometres, which is almost five times bigger. Greater Lagos has over 20 million people, compared to over 5 million in Greater Accra. That is nearly four times the size disparity. Despite the size difference, Accra boasts an expatriate community far larger than Lagos. In reality, there are very few differences between the two cities besides Accra being safer, cleaner, less aggressive, and having a better power and water supply.

Lagos is a freak for a city with corruption at the heart of its private, public, and everyday life. Aggression and fist fights are commonplace, with a disastrous disregard for traffic regulations. Dilapidated infrastructure and high birth rates have overwhelmed the city's capacity to cater to its teeming population. As a result, poverty and homelessness are probably the worst in the world. The city is often ranked at the bottom of the world, with the recent Economist Intelligent Unit (EIU) 2024 release comparing 173 cities and ranking Lagos as the fourth worst city in the world.

We're eager to hear your thoughts on this comparison. Share your experiences and insights in the comment section below. Your perspective is valuable to us and to our community of urban living enthusiasts.
