20 minutes' drive from the Volta regional capital, Ho lies Amedzofe, a small settlement believed to be the highest place of human habitation in Ghana. Located in the HoWest constituency, Amedzofe which literally means 'The place where man was formed' is 2,400 ft above sea level.

Hike through tranquil forest to ascend Mount Gemi (2500 ft.) for panoramic, breathtaking views, then make a short but steep descent to the dramatic Gbadzeme Waterfall. A variety of other hiking trails allow you to explore other waterfalls and pools.

This picturesque hilltop settlement has a invigorating, breezy climate and overlooks the lush Volta region. In the town, a fascinating mix of historical influences are evident, from stone reclining chairs in the village, to preWWI German architecture.

Activities

A challenging climb up the impressive Mount Gemi rewards with views of towns and villages, lush tropical forest, and deep green valleys. On clear days, rest at the mountaintop iron cross, erected in 1939, and look out on the great Lake Volta.
A 45minute stroll from the mountain reveals a seasonal waterfall. In the forest, many different birds, butterflies, and flowers are seen.
A trek of a few days from Amedzofe continues through the Avatime area and surrounding towns and villages via scenic bush path. Trained guides offer the history and lore of the area as you walk.
A bush path allows trekkers access to Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, and nearby Wli waterfall, Hohoe and Liate Wote.

A welcome centre and two interpretive summer huts.
A 12bed government guest house in town, which is a converted German missionary house.
Comfortable and clean homestays with local families.

Directions
From Accra or Hohoe, board a Ho bus or trotro and alight at Ho lorry station. Board an Amedzofe bus or trotro to travel the 50km from Ho, and at the last stop, look for the tourist office.
With a private car, drive towards Matse from Ho, to the Dzolokpuita junction, where you take the road to Vane, and continue to Amedzofe.
From Accra with an offroad vehicle, there is a rough road from Fume through Gbadzeme to Amedzofe, or through Biakpa and Vane to Amedzofe.
