Dr Else Sandset (Oslo University Hospital, NO) is joined by Prof Jesse Dawson (University of Glasgow, GB), Dr Urs Fischer (University Hospital Basel, CH) and Dr Masatoshi Koga (National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center, JP) to discuss the findings from their recent paper on “Early versus Later Anticoagulation for Stroke with Atrial Fibrillation” published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

This study aimed to investigate the effect of early as compared with later use of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in patients with atrial fibrillation who have had ischemic stroke. In this video, Dr Sandset, Prof Dawson, Dr Fischer and Dr Koga discuss the background, aims, methods and results of the ELAN trial before launching into a discussion surrounding the potential impacts of this study on clinical practice.
