The Easiest Chord Tone Exercise Ever | Simple Music Theory for Guitar | Backing Track

Here’s the easiest exercise you’ll ever do to burn chord tones into your brain just play 1 note per measure. We take a I, vi, IV, V, I in C (C, Am, F, G, C) as a backing track.

First we pick a position (the position around the 5th fret in the video, but it can be anywhere on the neck)
Next we find all of the roots of each chord in or around that position
Then as each chord passes, we play 1 and only 1 note per measure – the root of the chord.

That’s it. We can repeat all over the neck, or in a different key. When we get that 100% down, we can then play the 3rd of each chord, then the 5th, and so on.
