Colonel Edward "Ed" Shames was the last surviving officer of Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. A unit that would be made famous by the miniseries Band of Brothers.

Trained at Toccoa, Shames would make his first combat jump as an NCO into Normandy on DDay. For his actions in Normandy he would earn a battlefield commission to second lieutenant.

After DDay he would lead his men through Operation Market Garden, the Battle of the Bulge, and ultimately be the first platoon into Hitler's "Eagles Nest".

Colonel Edward D. Shames, age 99, passed away peacefully at home on December 3, 2021.
