Follow
Bob Hansler

That flower in your forest could actually be good enough to eat. The Turk's Cap is a popular gardening shrub in and around Texas these days, but it can provide much more than just a ornament to a landscape.

The Turk's Cap is a common flower found in the forests of South Texas, though few see it as anything more than a spot of color within the greenery. The flower is one of the most useful and best kept secrets. The flower itself is a ready to eat snack along with the new growth leaves providing substance and if lucky the shrub might actualy hid its fruit which are full of nutrients with a taste that can only be described as "applish."
