This video explores some of the effects and longterm consequences of not having a gallbladder. A small number of patients may have some distinct effects when they undergo removal of the gallbladder. The Gallbladder has three main functions, it concentrates bile, absorbs cholesterol (bile salts), and stores bile which is then propelled when the food arrives in the bowel. Removal of the gallbladder is advisable for people with symptoms from gallstones and more so if they suffer complications (infection, pancreatitis, etc.).
