This is my preowned Eflite Radian XL 2.6m RC glider. My maiden flight with it.

Rework prior to flight included:
Remove lead weight in nose from factory
Fill voids and lowspots in foam with Spackle. Sand flush.
Add packing tape to leading edge and tips of wing. And underside of fuselage.
Smooth exposed surfaces of foam with three coat of water based polyurethane. Sanded between coats.
About quadruple spoiler exposedarea with hinged plastic sheet stock.
Upsize motor to Eflite BL15 950KV.
Upsize propeller to Aeronaught 15x6 folding.
Install new nose cone and metal yoke for propeller.
Upsize ESC to Eflite 60A.
Weight RTF measured 5.8 pounds. Stock weight is 5 pounds.

Flown with Hyperion 1600 mah, 3cell graphene lipo batteries (2 in parallel) I measured a static 484 watts on the ground. I was trying for 500 watts and landed short even with the ESC timing set to the maximum of 25 degrees. Power draw is only 41 amps, and the motor landed nearly cool after my maiden flight, so there is room for more propeller. The remaining charge in the two lipo's measured 73% and 74%, respectively, after this 15 minute flight. Nice!

Climbs of my Radian XL glider were mostly at full throttle with around 75 degree angle. I didn't try for steeper climbs. Reading that this airplane is fragile and can fold its wing and/or break the elevator clevis, I flew it gently without aerobatics! Even without trying it thermalled decently this day. I do need more time with the spoilers and energy management with this airplane, clearly!

Piloting is at the club field of the Galveston Radio Control Fun Flyers of Indiana on September 25, 2020.
