The Imperial Ancestral Temple, built during the reigns of Ming and Qing emperors, served as a ancestral temple for offering sacrifices to their ancestors. It was first constructed in the 18th year of the Yongle era of the Ming Dynasty (1420) and covers an area of over 200 acres. The temple was built in accordance with the traditional Chinese ritual system of "Reverence for Heaven and Ancestral Worship."
