Settlement mills do not file lawsuits, go to court, or ever go to trial. All they do is settle cases prior to litigation and without litigation for whatever dollar amount they can get. There are entire employment law firms that operate this way. That means they will settle even very strong cases for much less than those cases are worth. So you could have a very strong case of discrimination, retaliation, sexual harassment, etc but a settlement mill will still encourage you to settle that case for peanuts.

Reality: Most companies will never pay what a strong case is worth unless you file a lawsuit and put in the time and work to prepare the case for trial.
