Armondo talks about a transformative project at the Juvenile Justice Center in Alameda, where he and his colleague Sean introduced a curriculum centered around building Lego Mindstorm robots. Initially met with hesitation, the project eventually saw increased participation as students built trust and began to engage enthusiastically. This project not only taught the students valuable skills but also provided a space for them to experience joy and teamwork.

Armondo highlights the importance of legitimizing the feelings and experiences of the students, many of whom face unimaginable challenges. By acknowledging and validating their emotions, he creates a supportive environment that fosters meaningful conversations and personal growth.
