Enhancing Relationships with the DBT 'G.I.V.E.' Skill

Follow
The Counseling Center Group

Welcome to our channel! In today’s video, we’re diving deep into the DBT GIVE skill—a powerful tool for building and maintaining positive relationships.

What is GIVE? It’s an acronym that stands for:

(Be) Gentle
(Act) Interested
Validate
(Use an) Easy manner

By using GIVE, you can improve your interactions, whether you're asking for something or saying "no." The goal is to make others feel valued and respected, which in turn fosters healthier, more fulfilling relationships.

Here’s a quick breakdown:

Be Gentle: Approach conversations with kindness and respect. Avoid sarcasm, threats, or blaming. Communicate your feelings calmly and maintain positive body language.

Act Interested: Show genuine interest in the other person’s thoughts and feelings. Listen actively, maintain eye contact, and stay engaged even if the topic isn’t your favorite.

Validate: Acknowledge the other person’s feelings and perspectives. Make an effort to understand their point of view and communicate that their experiences are valid and understandable.

Use an Easy Manner: Keep interactions friendly and lighthearted, even when discussing difficult topics or setting boundaries.

By incorporating these strategies, you’ll not only enhance your relationships but also feel better about yourself. So, if you want to create stronger connections and communicate more effectively, don’t miss this video!
