There are many distortion techniques available in Illustrator with which to manipulate vector artwork. However, it's not always desirable to permanently distort the original graphic. The option "Envelope Distort Make with Top Object" allows for a vector shape to distort another object by making it conform to it's size. This process is nondestructive and can be easily released at any point.
