Come learn about the historic town of Ephesus in Turkey
Ephesus is a historic town in Turkey. It was once the largest city in Asia Minor and also one of the most important cities in the ancient world.
It is located near the west coast of Anatolia, about 90 km (56 miles) from the modern port city of Izmir. The city was first settled around 2000 BC by Ionians and became one of the twelve Ionian cities.
Ephesus reached its height between 190 BC and 170 BC under Roman rule when it became the secondlargest city in Rome's empire, after Rome itself. The Ephesian Artemis was worshiped there as one of their most important deities, and according to legend, it was there that she had her greatest temple and cult statue.
Ephesus remained a place for religious pilgrimage for centuries
