Part 3 of our 5Day Backcountry Canoe Fishing Trip to Quetico Provincial Park

On our third day in Quetico we embark on an epic fishing day trip to an interior lake in Quetico and end up catching the canoe country grand slam! After scouting this previously unknown lake for a few hours, we get into a pocket of fish near the mouth of a river dumping into the main basin of the lake.

After weeding through a few mediumsized pike, we start to get into fantastic multispecies action (most notably a halfdozen or so trophy smallmouth) fishing a drop off to a flat area in about 25' that leads to the deepest water on the lake. It appears the fish are stacked and feeding off whatever is coming in, or out, of that river mouth.

I complete the Quetico canoe country grand slam with my incidental catch of the most beautiful lake trout I have ever seen. It is the darkest fish I have ever caught, by a long shot, colored up with the brightest orange fins I've ever seen on a trout. What a perfect day...just when we thought the Quetico fishing couldn't get any better...
