Drug therapies are available to treat people with epilepsy who have uncontrolled seizures. Healthcare providers prescribe epilepsy medication/seizure medication based on a number of factors, such as the patient’s seizure type, epilepsy syndrome, and age, to name a few. For most people with epilepsy, the first antiseizure medication (ASM) they try will work for them; others may have to try multiple medications or a combination of medication and surgery to control their seizures.
