Eregion is the big centerpiece for which all of the season's most important moments happen in; the forging of the Rings, the Siege of Eregion, and the rise of Sauron as the new Dark Lord of Mordor. McCreary created a theme for Eregion that harkened back to other elven themes, using a pastoral children's choir and a noble octave leap from the Valinor and Galadriel scores respectively. The main melody is also accompanied by fluttering tremolo strings akin to butterflies, McCreary stating he was inspired by Debussy and Ravel's work for the sound. Eregion's theme captures the serene and beautiful atmosphere of the elven city, while still containing that bitter taste of melancholy. As the season progresses and we see what is at stake with Eregion, it's theme is twisted into far more tragic, heartbreaking variations that only point to the underlying tragedy of its role in Middleearth history.
