Erie Northern Branch

Pavonia Terminal in Jersey City to Nyack, New York in the late 1950s on what was the original route of the Erie into Northern New Jersey. The Erie and Susquehanna had joint trackage from Croxton to Babbitt (Granton Jct.), plus Susquehanna trains used the Erie's passenger facilities in Jersey City, which is why you will see some Susquehanna trains.

Passenger service continued under EL in 1966 when the EL was allowed to discontinue service on lighter density lines. In anticipation of the Conrail split part of the Northern Branch was repurposed to realign Conrail's and later CSX's River Line between North Bergen and Marion Jct. to bypass its Weehawken tunnel and curvy track through Hoboken.
