It is a hematopoietic growth factor.
It regulates erythropoiesis by stimulating the differentiation and proliferation of erythroid precursors, stimulating the release of reticulocytes into the circulation & stimulating the synthesis of cellular hemoglobin.

Indications:
Anemia of chonic renal failure
Anemia of patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome
Anemia associated with cancer chemotherapy.

Dosage:
Initially 2550 iu/kg body weight lover 12 minutes, 3 times per week.
Dose increases in steps of 25 iu/kg, in intervals of 4 weeks, depending upon initial response.
Maintain dose dose weekly: 100300 iu/kg in 23 injections.

Contraindications:
Uncontrolled hypertension
hypersens to mammalian cell producs and hypersens to human albumin.

Special precautions:
Chronic renal failure
IHD
Hypertension
Pregnancy
Seizures
Liver dysfunction
Lactation

Sideeffects:
Headache
Confusion
Generalised Seizures
Thrombosis
Hypertension
Myalgia
Arthralgia
Flu like syndrome
Rashes and urticaria.
