Teaching language learners at the beginner level is fun! Many people don't believe it's really possible to teach A1 students without using L1. To get A1 ESL students to be able to communicate takes a special use of techniques, patience and understanding of the methodology. It's all doable and beginners are easily one of the most rewarding levels to teach.
Chris Westergaard from The Language House TEFL in Prague demonstrates the 5 Points to Teaching Beginners methodology. This is a great lesson structure and series of guidelines for all your A1/Beginner EFL and ESL students.
A few things to look at are his TTT, eliciting, drilling, error correction, and building a conversation from the basic elements.
