Synthesis of three different esters.
Ester A is made by adding 10 drops of methanol to 0.1 g of salicylic acid and 2 drops of 18 M sulfuric acid.
Ester B is made by adding 20 drops of pentan1ol and 20 drops of glacial acetic acid.
Ester C is made by adding 20 drops of octan1ol and 20 drops of glacial acetic acid.
All three mixtures are then heated for at least 5 minutes in a hot water bath. The esters can then be smelled using wafting.
