A Toyota master diagnostic technician shares everything you need to know about the Toyota Tacoma 4WD system What's new and is it better than the previous generation Tacoma?
Welcome to Part 3 of my Toyota Tacoma Series! In this part of the series We'll be focusing on the 4WD system of the Tacoma including CRAWL control.
First we'll take a look at the new transfer case for the Tacoma, Including the changes in the Transfer case actuator which now is a single motor design instead of a two motor design.
Then We'll take a look at the front differential which for the most part remains similar to the previous generation but gains a Temperature switch. The rear end of the Tacoma remains largely unchanged when compared to the previous generation.
About the most important and major change in the 3rd generation Toyota Tacoma 4WD system is on the computer control side. Welcome to the era where Toyota 4WD computers store trouble codes and make diagnosis much easier and more efficient.
But diagnosis and repair wouldn't be needed if you engage your 4WD system in all positions monthly to keep everything moving and prevent seizing which is the principal reason why they get stuck.
In the next part of this series we'll be looking at the Tacoma's Suspension and Brakes including the CRAWL system and what changes that bring to the brake system.
