Bug, a 12yearold girl, lives in a quiet provincial town where her grandfather, the former sheriff, is respected as a guardian of the law who dedicated his life to protecting the community. One day, Bug accidentally uncovers a dark secret from the past: her grandfather may have been involved in covering up a racially motivated murder that took place many years ago. Initially shocked by this revelation, she struggles to believe that her hero could be capable of such a crime.

Determined to uncover the truth, Bug embarks on her own investigation, delving into the town’s hidden history and old conflicts. She speaks to those who knew the victim, researches old records, and even confronts her grandfather with uncomfortable questions, raising more suspicions. Realizing that his past might catch up with him, her grandfather tries to protect both himself and his reputation.

Bug faces a moral dilemma: should she stand against her family to right an old wrong? Her decision will not only change her life but also affect the lives of many in the town.
