Exact knowledge of the nearfield radiation profiles of chipintegrated optical waveguides is essential for maximizing the fibertochip coupling efficiency through a proper selection of chipexternal coupling components, e.g. microlenses or spotsizeconverting waveguides. In this onlineseminar we will revise basic methods for optical characterization of integrated optical waveguides as well as the ways to increase the fiberchip coupling efficiency.
