The Colorado river is at the centre of a political struggle with the State of Colorado and the American Indians claiming it for their own uses. Only the valley where it rises are completely wild. It's species once hunted to near extinction have been reintroduced and rare black bears, mountain lions and the endangered bighorn sheep are also increasing in numbers.
