In Feb 2024 I visited Johnston Atoll with a small team of military and contractor personnel to conduct a runway survey and inspection.
As you do when you visit Johnston you have to spend some time exploring the JOC. But, as you will see, the stairs have rusted out in some sections. It takes a little ingenuity (and the boat’s ladder) to get to the top. It won’t be too long before getting to the top will be very difficult and risky indeed.
