The Canadian federal government recently introduced Bill C18 the Online News Act with the goal of forcing digital giants, such as Meta and Google, to compensate news publishers for the use of their content. The result has been that Meta will be phasing out access to news on their platforms. This occurred in Australia in 2021, and other countries such as the United Kingsom are watching carefully in terms of how all this pans out.
