Fake news is a global problem facing all democracies, and it has the potential to do real harm. Taiwan’s civil groups are working hard to factcheck fake news in realtime. Learn how they tackle this genuine threat to Taiwan’s democracy in this episode of “Broken News.”

Taiwan is on the frontline of a disinformation war with China, experiencing thousands of attacks a day. From fake news online to ontheground interference, Taiwan’s population has to be vigilant and able to identify fake news when they see it. That’s where civil organizations such as IORG, MyGoPen, Doublethink and others come into play. These groups all work together uniquely to help protect Taiwan from the harms of disinformation. From factchecking to employing data science methods to analyze fake news, learn more about how these different groups operate and how they work together to help Taiwan’s population understand more about mis and disinformation. One consensus all the experts agree on is the need for vigilance amongst the population regarding disinformation to help protect everyone from the harm it can cause.
