This tough little Fairbanks Style "D" has never been restored and is mostly all original. It's rated at 2 HP and I thought it would be fun to hook it up to an early Stover water pump (I'm guessing 191020) that under normal load (pumping water out of the ground some 50 plus feet would need a larger horsepower engine. Smart collectors will realize that there is no pump rod or even a well attached to this Stover pump. The fun part is slowing down to the rpm to where it barely runs so you can see what it takes to simply freewheel some heavy bull gears. In its time, farmers could hear this pump running day in and and out, maintaining the vital lifesaving water for a farm.
I only slowed the engine down briefly to show you the amazing engineering that goes into these historic engines. I really hope you can see how simple things used to be!
