Wanderlust Journey

In this episode, I'll be showing you around the iconic Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, also known as “The Castle in the Rockies”.

I had been upgraded to Fairmont Gold, which meant that when we arrived to the hotel, we went straight to the Gold Reception on the fifth floor to check in and didn't have to wait in the check in line in the main lobby.

They upgraded me to a Fairmont Gold Mountain View Room with a kind bed. The rooms are very well appointed and the historic charm of the hotel really comes through in the details. Not to mention the views are just amazing in a Mountain View category.

My room featured a bathroom with a shower, a closet with a safe, iron and ironing board, umbrellas, water kettle and a Nespresso machine for coffee.

When you arrive, you'll also find a Fairmont Gold welcome letter, to inform you of your included benefits of your stay.

Fairmont Gold is offered at most Fairmont Hotels and Resorts around the world. It's an amazing boutique hotel concept within the hotel. Fairmont Gold guests have access to extra amenities, including a private Fairmont Gold Lounge that serves complementary breakfast, afternoon or early evening canapes, hors d'oeuvres and desserts. It's also a lovely spot to enjoy a coffee or drink after your day's adventures.

Stock Food & Drink is a great quick service place to grab some snacks and a coffee. They also sell some of their feature cocktails in a bottle to take home.

The Fairmont Banff Springs doesn't provide bottled water in the rooms, however you will find these bottle refilling stations around the property.

The Fairmont Rooms are the standard accommodation types that you'll find at the Banff Springs Hotel.

The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel has 757 guest rooms and suites and offers 9different dining options and 3 bars/lounges.

Heritage Hall is a small museum right in the Banff Springs Hotel. The hotel was built in 1886 and opened in 1888. There is also a guided tour of the hotel that you can do which is an included activity with your stay as a hotel guest. The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel is also said to be haunted, stories of a ghost bride and a the ghost of a friendly and helpful bellman are some of the most popular ones.

After my property tour, we headed back to the Fairmont Banff Springs and to the Gold Lounge where canapes were being served.

It was then time to check out the new Rundle Bar for a couple cocktails. The Fairmont did a great job of the renovations and even added a fun “hidden sitting area”. The cocktails we tried were the “Bradshaw” a twist on a cosmo and the Wild Flower, part of their Mountain Series.

The fitness centre and pools at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel are very well equipped. There is also a yoga room in addition to the gym. They offer many classes in the fitness centre and some of them are included with your stay. I did take advantage of the Fairmont Fit lending program, which is a benefit when you reach a certain status in their loyalty program. This meant that I had gym wear and trainers in my room when I arrived so I didn't need to worry about packing extra shoes and wear for the gym.
