In this video, I'd like to tell you about the famous Ukrainian poem "Kateryna" written by Taras Shevchenko, and the painting "Kateryna", painted a few years later.

The poem starts with the phrase:

“Кохайтеся, чорнобриві,
Та не з москалями,
Бо москалі чужі люди,
Роблять лихо з вами.”

This phrase has become a sage advice of Taras Shevchenko to the people of Ukraine: to stay away from russians, because they bring only evil to the Ukrainian land.

In the video, we will also talk a bit about the symbolism of the picture "Kateryna" and author's perception of his own characters.
