Sodiumion batteries have recently been used in small electric cars. In this application, the fastcharging capability of the batteries is of course of particular interest. Layered oxides are often used as the cathode material for sodiumion batteries. And these layered oxides cause problems during fast charging. Dr. Simon Daubner (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) explains what exactly happens in the battery.
