On July 27, 2023, FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh testified in front of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission about the dangers of lithiumion batteries and the need for federal regulation. While in DC, Commissioner Kavanagh advocated for Congressional support of the WTC Health Program, and was present for the passage of the bill. In addition, Commissioner Kavanagh attended the First Responders Summit hosted by New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.
