Federal Signal Modulator Siren Playing The National Anthem | U.S. Military Base

S.E.R. Safety

Here's a Federal Signal Modulator outdoor emergency warning siren/speaker found on a U.S. Military base. Military bases typically play the national anthem (The StarSpangle Banner through these sirens at 1700 (5:00 PM) as a signal for personnel to stop and render honors to the flag.

The precise timing of 1700 is often chosen because it aligns with the end of the typical workday on military bases. It serves as a reminder to service members to pause, reflect, and show respect for the national flag. Additionally, playing the national anthem at a consistent time each day helps instill discipline and reinforces the values of patriotism and duty among military personnel.

Before the national anthem is played it's common for them to play a bugle call called "Retreat." This bugle call serves as a signal for all military personnel that the National Anthem is about to play and to come to attention and render appropriate honors as the American flag.
