We took a last minute trip to Madeline Island our first visit to scout out for future vacations. Saturday morning we made the 10 am ferry from Bayfield to Madeline Island. It was ridiculously crowded because of a roller blading event road closures and hoards of people. We immediately headed to Big Bay State Park to avoid the crowds. We were swarmed by mosquitoes standing in the parking lot so most of the day was spent in the bug shirts. We did a short trail at the park before heading back into town for lunch. We stopped in at the Madeline Island museum. Currently they have a special Ojibwe exhibit. Rob provided some cool details about some of the items in the museum including a dug out canoe that he donated to the museum. He suggested we check out Big Bay Town Park and while headed there, we saw a mama bear and her 3 cubs headed into the State Park. After walking around the Town Park, we toured the island and found our way back to the State Park for a hike that got cut short when we lost the flooded trail in the swamp. Bear tracks all around. On the way back we saw some even in our footprints on the way out. It started to rain about 7 pm and kept up into the morning. We did get a bit of a fire before it started to rain too hard.
