Fico Secco Piacentino

I received this fig as Fico Greco from another collector several years ago. Upon reading more on this variety, I’ve learned that it may be a synonym of several other figs. Another collector writes:

Fico Greco Paolo Belloni ‘Pomona Garden’ is a fig variety that comes from Italy. Its long name tells a little bit about its origin story. “Greco” indicates that the fig is a Greek variety that grew in the ideal Mediterranean climate. The variety became part of Paolo Belloni’s collection housed in his botanical conservatory called Pomona Garden. There in the countryside of Valle D’Itria, Belloni has preserved many types of rare fruit trees including around 600 fig varieties. Fico Greco Paolo Belloni ‘Pomona Garden’ is one of those varieties that has since made its way to reputable fig growers in the U.S.

I’ve shared it before and sold it before as such. Since then I’ve been contacted by some well respected collectors here in the states that corrected me in the name. They told me that Paolo never had a fig by this name. But that I should instead refer to it as Fico Secco Piacentino. I've also seen it listed on Mario's fig list as Fico Greco. I suspect that my contact obtained it from Mario. Long story short, I’ve settled on Fico Secco Piacentino. I’ve come to learn that it does have several names that for now I’ll consider synonyms. Moro de Caneva, Fico Secco, Moro di Caneva, Semantino, Szivarfuge & Nerino.
